iCal2Eudora
For iCal 1.0
By Ole Saalmann - Sept 10 2002

Download version 1.0

Do also check my new iCal weblog <http://blog.saalmann.de/categories/ical/>

What is it?

It is outdated! Better use ZappTek's. They come with an installer and are updated.

iCal2Eudora is a hack for Apple iCal. iCal 1.0 send notifications through Apple Mail. iCal2Eudora changes this so the e-mails are sent through Eudora.
It's a birthday present for my son Lennart who turned one today (Sept. 10, 2002) (http://www.raketenkind.de/)

Support for other mail apps like PowerMail, Mailsmith etc. might be added. Will look into this soon. Also, an installer might be supplied at any time.

Also, readers pointed out that sending through sendmail might be an option. AFAIK, sendmail is not enabled on startup but it might be an option for the more adventurous minds.

If anyone knows how the scheduling works when iCal is not running please tell me!

System requirements

iCal2Eudora requires iCal 1.0 (obviously). iCal requires Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

How to install it?

– Quit iCal (probably not required, but good idea anyway).
– In the Finder, Ctrl-click the iCal icon and choose 'Show Package Contents', open the 'Contents' folder and then the 'Resources' folder.
- Inside the resources folder, you find 4 AppleScripts:
mailScript.applescript
mailInfoScript.applescript
mailScriptWithAttachment.applescript
Entourage2WR.applescript
- To be safe, rename the first three (by adding _Mail at the end for example) in order to be able to revert the changes later on. You schouldn't touch the 'Entourage2WR.applescript'
- Copy the scripts from the 'iCal2Eudora' disk image into the 'Resources' folder.
- Launch iCal and try

 How to uninstall it?

?If you want iCal to send e-mail with Apple Mail again, proceed like this:
– Quit iCal (probably not required, but good idea anyway).
– In the Finder, Ctrl-click the iCal icon and choose 'Show Package Contents', open the 'Contents' folder and then the 'Resources' folder.
- Inside the resources folder, delete these 3 AppleScripts:
mailScript.applescript
mailInfoScript.applescript
mailScriptWithAttachment.applescript
- Remove the _Mail extension you added earlier from the other script files.
- Everything should be like it was in the beginning

Important note about future upgrades

It might be advisable to uninstall my scripts before updating iCal.

Known issues

iCal2Eudora works as long as iCal is running. But iCal also issues alerts when it is not running. These are still done by Apple's Mail.app. I will look into this, as for now, you have to either leave iCal on all the time or configure Mail.app so it can send email once in a while. How much is it?

iCal2Eudora is free.
